RIM's announces BlackBerry BBX operating system | preview | download

RIM announced its latest operating system at BlackBerry DevCon and it is called the BBX. Its name is indicative of its build, as it merges the BlackBerry operating system and the QNX platform, which is on the Playbook tablet.  


The platform uses the same browser source code on BlackBerry 6 and BlackBerry 7, giving BBX the chance to use HTML 5 and WebWorks apps that worked on the previous operating systems. RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis says HTML 5 will bridge between the new platform and older BlackBerry 6 and 7 operating systems. 

BBX will also include the new BlackBerry Cascades UI Framework is touted to come with advance graphics. Thisismynext reported that it looks like a compressed visual stream of showing email, calls, BBM, SMS, Facebook, and Skype. In tradition with its enterprise background, a Work tab is added to App World, allowing business type to get specific apps.  

Additionally, there is "Super App" capabilities for gaming, it enable capabilities including deep integration between apps, always-on Push services, the BBM Social Platform, and much more.  

In addition to the operating system, RIM is offering up a new developer beta for the Playbook. Within the developer beta is BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps, which gives Android apps Playbook compatibility. Developers can opt to use a plugin to develop Android apps or repackage apps completely online via the BlackBerry Packager.
