Hawaii Tsunami lunge, Thousands Displaced Residents

Hawaii - The tsunami waves that rolled thousands of miles magnitude 8.9 earthquake in Japan has now crossed the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. But have not reported any casualties.

AFP quoted by AFP on Friday (13/03/2011), sirens around the area continue to sound the Hawaiian coast. Hawaiian authorities were quick to evacuate thousands of residents to higher ground. Many residents are now displaced in shelters. The height of the tsunami varied between 3-7 feet.

Hawaii and the west coast in the U.S. fall into the category areas included in the threat of a tsunami after an earthquake measuring 8.9 Richter hit Japan. Hawaii itself is located at 4000 miles or 6500 kilometers from the epicenter in Japan.

While the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, at least 310 people dead, 350 missing and 544 injured.
